We are ThirstyRunGirl and FI Travel Guy. The purpose of this blog is to document our adventures exploring Michigan’s craft beer and wine industries.
Michigan Craft Beer: There are over 150 brewpubs and breweries across Lower Michigan alone. Here you will find adventurous ways of discovering some of these breweries, along with our tips and travels about our personal favorites. There are a few different versions of a craft path, or beer trail, that make visiting the breweries in Michigan an entertaining goal for both locals and visitors. For instance, Kalamazoo has a beer passport called “Give a Craft,” where participants visit different breweries and receive a stamp in their passport book. Upon receipt of all stamps, participants receive some beer trail swag. In another popular tourist city, Traverse City offers their “Ale Trail” where participants also receive stamps in a passport. Those who complete the passport after purchasing a pint from each of the 8 participating breweries, will receive a free silicone pint glass. A ninth brewery visit is offered as extra credit to receive a bonus prize.
Michigan Craft Wine:There are over 100 commercial wineries sprawled across Michigan’s approximate 100k square miles. Many of these small businesses participate in a consortium in the form of a wine trail to promote the state’s enotourism industry. We plan to explore as many of the Michigan wineries and corresponding trails as we can, but will begin with the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. See you on the trails!
